Getting Technical: APR Sway Bars are constructed from high-tensile strength steel, known for its excellent durability properties. To reduce weight without compromising strength, these bars are hollow. Each bar is precision CNC-bent from a single piece of bar stock, eliminating welds and significantly reducing the risk of failure compared to traditional manufacturing methods. The bar ends are forged into shape and then quench-hardened in specialized fixtures to achieve the highest strength profile possible, and then dimensionally confirmed in final check fixtures. Lastly, each sway bar is coated with a corrosion-resistant red powder coat, offering both durability and a sleek appearance. On this particular model, we’ve increased the bar diameter to 28 mm, with a 4.5 mm wall thickness, an upgrade from the factory’s 24.3x4.1mm (MK7 R/8Y RS3) and 25.4x4.4m (MK8 R) size. This enhancement results in a spring rate of 339/388 lbs/in delivering a 65%/88% and 57%/80% increase over the factory MK7/MK8 Golf R bars.
